miniaturo

A RAW image thumbnailer written in Rust.

This project is intended to be a drop-in replacement for the (mostly unmaintained) raw-thumbnailer project.

⚠️ Note: Miniaturo requires libopenraw 0.3, which was released in December 2020. As of early 2021, this library version is not yet bundled with distros that don't follow rolling releases. In those cases you need to manually install libopenraw.

Requirements

For building:

  • Rust
  • gcc or clang
  • pkg-config
  • libopenraw 0.3

Installing

Ideally, you get this project through a distribution package.

Alternatively, you can install through cargo from crates.io:

cargo install miniaturo

Or build it yourself:

cargo build --release

Implementation notes

miniaturo uses libopenraw (0.3) to parse the RAW image and thus supports all camera formats that libopenraw supports.

The loading, resizing and encoding of the thumbnail is done in pure Rust using image-rs.

Project name

The name of this project is the Esperanto word for "thumbnail".

Tests

To run integration tests, first download the test images:

python3 tests/download-test-images.py

Then run tests:

cargo test
