clap-vergen

Reusable clap subcommand version using vergen

Usage

Get version information in build.rs:

use vergen::{vergen, Config};

fn main() {
    let mut cfg = Config::default();
    *cfg.sysinfo_mut().name_mut() = false;
    vergen(cfg).expect("Fail to generate version info");
}

Then, add a subcommand:

use clap::Parser;

#[derive(Debug, clap::Parser)]
enum Cli {
    Version(clap_vergen::Version),
}

fn main() {
    match Cli::from_args() {
        Cli::Version(version) => {
            clap_vergen::print!(version);
        }
    }
}

This creates a version subcommand in the executable

$ ./target/debug/clap-vergen-example version --help
clap-vergen-example-version 
Output detail version of executable

USAGE:
    clap-vergen-example version [OPTIONS]

OPTIONS:
    -h, --help    Print help information
        --json    Output version info as JSON

Two output formats are supported:

$ ./target/debug/clap-vergen-example version
Build Timestamp:     2022-08-06T08:16:05.843030928Z
Build Version:       0.1.0
Commit SHA:          f1af7e4b9fc58b7aa73b1e14a617d9a341a9880d
